This is my finished music magazine front cover. After making a draft and deciding to make some changes I got this result which I am very happy with. I think the colours fit the genre well and I think it looks a lot like real magazines on the market.

This is my final contents page for my music magazine. After my first draft I decided to make some changes to the design to make it more aesthetically pleasing and to also make it follow the codes and conventions better. This is what I finalised on.

This is my final double page spread that I designed for my music magazine. After making the first draft of my double page spread I decided that overall I was happy with the design of the product. But i thought i needed to make some small changes to the sizes of the text and image. After making these changes, I was happy with the design and decided to make no further changes.

Music Magazine: Double page spread

To create my double page spread I used software called Quark Xpress passport. First I created my background colour of dark grey, I did this to make the text and image stand out more and make it more aesthetically pleasing. Next I chose to add the image I had chosen to use from my photo-shoot, I edited the picture in photoshop and changed the exposure level and created a grayscale version of the image which i felt looked more interesting an fitted in well with the background colour. 

After adding the image I created my cover line and stand first, I chose to use the colour scheme of yellow an white for the text as they are both contrasting colours to the dark gray background. I then wrote the article and made all corrections to make sure no mistakes went on the magazine. To stay with conventions I added a website on the bottom of each page which is along side the page number. Next I checked the double page spread over for mistakes.

After finishing my first draft of my front cover I looked at areas of the magazine I could improve to make it meet conventions and the genre better. First I looked at the title and decided that the title "Musement" did not fit the genre of Rock music and that it fitted the genre of technology magazine and entertainment magazine better. After trying to come up with a new name that would the "rock" genre I decided to go with the title "Rock" as it's simple and in your face like rock music. I then decided to change the font to a more bold font that would stand out and be more in your face, I used the drop shadow, inner shadow and a gradient overlay effects on the text to give it some depth and make it seem like its coming out the page. I also chose to get rid of the painted background behind the title and stand first. I then went on to create a different positioning statement that was memorable and used alliteration to do so.
Next I looked at the background of the magazine and seen that it was very plain, so I decided to use the paint brush tool using a spray paint styled brush to create a black, red and white background that keeps in with my colour scheme and also make my image stand out more as in the first draft it seemed masked by all the other effects.
I also seen that some conventions had been missed in the first draft such as the issue date, so I created an issue date that will sit under the title. After resizing some parts of the cover an moving parts around slightly I settled on this for my final cover.

Music Magazine First Draft Step By Step

First, using the paint brush tool I created a background which the title will go in-front of, I chose a special brush stroke to make it look like it was spray paint and like its very distorted which fits in with my genre of rock. 

Next, I wrote out my title and using the paint brush tool I painted out section of the letters to make it seem look more distorted which fits my genre of rock.

After I had finished my title, I inserted the image I had chosen to use for my front cover from my photo-shoot. I then cut the background of the image out to make the background plain white which draws more attention to the image itself.

I then used the paint tool again to create a border for the bottom of the page and added some area's of red paint to stick with the colour scheme which was most popular from my customer research. This too is in the style of spray paint to keep continuity throughout the cover.

Using the same brush tool I created a background for the stand first to go in-front of to make it stand out more to the audience.

Next, I used the text tool to create my stand first and chose to use a drop shadow on the bold writing to make it stand out to the reader.

After creating the stand first I used the paint brush tool to create a red cross which is a stylistic feature which will feature in all issues of my magazine as bullet points for headlines. I also entered text showing bands that feature in this issue on the bottom border, these are in white and red which keep with the colour scheme of the magazine

After creating the bullet points for the headlines I wrote the headlines and sub-lines showing which articles feature in this issue. I also added a puff to show the audience that there are free posters in this issue. This is the finished first draft of my music magazine.

From my photoshoot I have chosen my favourite photos that I think will look best on my magazine. I think they fit my genre best and are the most aesthetically pleasing out off all of the pictures I took.

For my Music Magazine I will need my own photos for the front cover, Contents page and Double page spread. This slide show contains all of the photos I took of which I will select only a few to actually feature in the Final product. I chose to experiment with the angles of the images to try and make them look more proffesional as I looked at magazines with a similar genre to mine such as "kerrang" magazine an seen that camera played a big part in their images.

Planning Production

I was asked to create a planning production for my music magazine. It will feature all the information on what i plan on having on my Contents including the images I will use and the message from the editor.
